Pictures

Mostly pictures today. I went to a couple of new libraries over the weekend. I'm making great progress on the list - I'm halfway through now. 14 down and 14 to go! The other pictures are from my walk yesterday at Land Park.

Elk Grove Library. It's a small library but in a nice 2-story building which I liked.

This is the stained glass window at Elk Grove. I thought it was very cool. I'd love a house with a window like this!

Franklin Library. This one is located on the grounds of a high school and I nearly got lost trying to find it. I finally had to ask a student in the parking lot where it was. . .

There were 4 of these ducks swimming in a nice row but the one at the end was getting distracted.

The others just kept on going without their friend.

He finally decided to join them but had to move kind of fast to catch up!

There are a couple of small lakes in the park and they have these geysers in the middle. I like sitting and watching them. They make neat patterns in the water.

I thought these two looked quite content. They didn't appreciate having their picture taken though. They looked at me in disgust (kind of the way my cats do when I take their picture) and walked away as soon as I took the picture.

My grass is growing amazingly fast! I think I can almost see it growing. I guess another day or so and I'll put it down for my cats. Then I'd better plant more because it'll go fast!

This is Pippin. He was relaxing in the sun and turned to look at me so I got a really cute picture of him!

I think this is a Mountain Bluebird. It was on the fence outside my window and was kind enough to stay and allow me to take a picture and look at the bird book. This is the first bird I've been able to get a picture of and I was very excited!

I went to the State Capital Park today and wandered around for awhile. I had forgotten to bring my camera but fortunately had my iphone with me which actually takes pretty good pictures. There are a couple of veterans memorials in the park and since today is Veteran's Day I thought I'd share those pictures. Later I'll post some of the other pictures I took today.

California Veteran's Memorial. This is very nice looking - I liked the pictures on the sides. There is a computer station nearby where you can search a database for information on veterans who have served since 1850. An arc of flags representing all of the armed services surrounds the memorial.

California Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. The age of the majority of those listed is under 30 (click on the picture & you can read it). It's very sad to look at. You'd think having memorials like this would make lawmakers think twice before starting a war. Apparently they don't.
